Short CV

Professor Vasilis Ntziachristos studied electrical engineering at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He was Assistant Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Bio-Optics and Molecular Imaging at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital. Since 2007, he is a Professor of Medicine and Electrical Engineering and the Chair of Biological Imaging at the Technical University of Munich and the Director of the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging at Helmholtz Munich. He is also Department Head of the Bioengineering Center at Helmholtz Munich and Director of Bioengineering at the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus. His research focuses on the development of new methods and devices for optoacoustic and fluorescence imaging with the aim of achieving sustained improvements in the non-invasive investigation of physiological and molecular processes in tissues towards the development of cost-effective and minimally invasive methods for diagnosing and treating life-threatening diseases.
