Short CV

Michalis E. Zervakis has made outstanding contributions to the development of non-invasive medical diagnostic systems with applications in computer-aided electroencephalography (EEG), image analysis for the assessment of the risk of several brain diseases (Epilepsy, mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, mild traumatic brain injuries, as well as other degenerative disease assessment, including diseases of the circulatory system, neoplastic diseases, and multiple sclerosis). His work on deep learning for epileptic seizure detection and prediction, and AI in medical imaging and genome informatics has advanced computational tools especially in brain diseases and cancer diagnosis. More specifically, he develops computer-aided non-invasive diagnosis systems that provide unique harmonization of signal/image/video acquisition, preprocessing, mutli-feature extraction and selection, robust classification schemes ending up to integrated clinical decision making. Furthermore, he explores the associations between genotype and phenotype through the combined analysis of medical imaging and multi-omics data. This analysis integrates several aspects of inter intra-tumor variability, thereby improving diagnostic potential and therapeutic decisions incorporating the principles of precision medicine
