Inaugurated for:

For his fundamental contributions to vascular fluid-structure coupled problems, geometric multiscale methods for the cardiovascular system, multiscale perfusion modelling in myocardium, and the optimization of cardiac resynchronization therapy in computational electro-physiology.

Short CV

Christian Vergara is a Full Professor of Numerical Analysis, i.e., the field of mathematics that study the solution of practical and concrete quantitative problems, such as those arising in the cardiovascular field. He currently works at LABS, a laboratory of excellence of Politecnico di Milano, born in 2000 with the aim of conjugating computational and experimental research for biomedical applications in the same physical lab. He is also Adjunt Professor at MOX, another laboratory of excellence of Politecnico di Milano, where the other members of the Politecnico unit are affiliated.

His research is focused on developing numerical algorithms for hemodynamics and cardiac electrophysiology and to apply them to cases of clinical interest, in collaboration with hospitals. Among the others, the clinical problems we studied referred, e.g., to cardiac resynchronization therapy, carotid endarterectomy, multiple coronary by-passes, cardiac valve replacements, myocardial perfusion.
