Ms. Glenis Willmott (S&D, UK), rapporteur for the Clinical Trials Regulation that is being discussed in the European Parliament, has published a press release on her website calling for increased transparency in clinical trials in the EU.
The European Commission’s DG Research has published a report entitled “She figures: Gender in Research and Innovation 2012” shows that despite the fact that more women than men are graduating, women comprise only 20% of senior academics in Europe’s Universities.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has published a report on patient recruitment and geographical location of clinical trials.

On 08 April 2013, the European Parliament Draft Report was published on the Commission Proposal for a “Regulation on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization in the Union”.
On 09 April 2013, Commission for Health and Consumers, Dr. Tonio Borg, delivered a keynote speech on investing in health at the EU Health Policy Forum in Brussels.
The Draft Report on the proposal for a Regulation on medical devices was published on 15 April 2013. The Draft Report was prepared and drafted by Ms Dagmar Roth-Behrendt MEP, rapporteur for the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee, which is the lead Committee for the dossier in the European Parliament.
The European Parliament by 506 members to 161 voted through a resolution calling for greater flexibility and efficiency within the EU budget which is likely to raise political tension between the Parliament and Council of the European Union, who are attempting to come to an agreement on the EU budget.
The European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee, has decided to follow up on the European Commission Communication on “Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan: Reigniting the entrepreneurial spirit in Europe”.
