The Virtual Physiological Human Institute for Integrative Biomedical Research, in short VPH Institute, was recently established as an international non-profit organisation incorporated in Belgium and it is now ready to operate and to start the membership campaign.

EAMBES gave its contribute to the European Commission Green Paper "From Challenges to Opportunities: Towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation funding", giving voice to the view of the 8000 researchers the Alliance represents.
Earlier in 2011 the EC opened a public consultation on the Active and Healthy Ageing Innovation Platform, to which EAMBES responded with a position paper. Recently the EC published a synthesis report of this consultation. The Policy Affairs work group of EAMBES analysed this report to see how EAMBES recommendations were positioned.
In the past year EAMBES has increased its capacity to interact with policy makers in order to raise awareness about the issues facing Biomedical Engineering and the health technology research.
During its last meeting on March 14th, 2011 the General Council of the European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and Science unanimously elected Marco Viceconti as President. In the next lines we will try to discover something more about our newly elected President, his ideas and goals for the future.
2010 has been a very important year for EAMBES which saw the complete re-organisation and re-vitalisation of the Alliance under the guidance of the so called “Resuscitation plan”. This document, approved by the Council at the end of 2009, contains indications on how to bring back to life the Alliance, that for few years suffered of organisational problems.

The newly elected EAMBES Council has confirmed Prof. Jos Spaan representative of EAMBES in the Health First Europe Executive Committee, being certain that this collaboration will ensure a better synergy in the common goal to promote Health Technology Research.
Former EAMBES President, Professor Patrick Prendergast, has been elected Provost of Irelands most prestigious university.
EAMBES President introduces to the membership this new monthly email newsletter, which we intend to transform in the primary vehicle for communication and information for all European biomedical engineers.
